It wasn’t really news when Taylor Stone posed nude for Playboy…until it was discovered that her real name is Taylor Corley, and that she is a Mississippi State University cheerleader.

Tired of various set-top boxes cluttering up your living room? Roku on Wednesday unveiled a small “Streaming Stick” that plugs into your TV’s HDMI port for access to various streaming services, like Netflix.
The stick is the size of the average USB flash drive, but includes built-in Wi-Fi, a processor, memory, and software. It works with HDMI ports that have been MHL-enabled—MHL stands for Mobile High-Definition Link and it’s a new standard that uses the HDMI connector to deliver streaming services.
With the Streaming Stick in place, viewers can use their TV remote to navigate the Roku interface, which includes access to more than 400 channels. Roku also promised regular, free software updates.
The device will be available in the fall; Roku did not announce pricing, but its most recent set-top box, the Roku LT, costs $50.
The Roku Streaming Stick will also be bundled with select TV sets, the first of which will be from Best Buy’s Insignia brand.
“The Roku Streaming Stick provides an elegant and easy over-the-top streaming solution for customers who want the full experience of a Smart TV without adding an external set box, HDMI cable and power adapter to their TV,” Scott Jacobi, director of exclusive brands at Best Buy, said in a statement.
The first MHL-enabled Insignia TVs with the Streaming Stick will debut sometime this year at Best Buy.
Roku debuted as a means to stream Netflix to your TV, an idea that has since evolved to include gaming consoles, Blu-ray players, smartphones, and more.
“Roku is taking streaming innovation to the next level and giving consumers a seamless Smart TV experience,” said Greg Peters, vice president at Netflix. “The Roku Streaming Stick is a great solution for Netflix because it allows us to deliver the Netflix experience found on the Roku platform to potentially any TV.”
Roku argued that today’s Smart TVs, like smartphones, become outdated quickly as technology evolves. But while people tend to replace their smartphones every two years or so, they keep their TVs for an average of six to eight years.
“By moving the streaming platform to a stick that’s easily replaceable, consumers no longer have to worry about their large-screen Smart TV becoming obsolete before its time,” Roku said.
Cloud provider Brightcove, meanwhile, said today that it will launch a Showtime app specifically for the Roku, which will provide access to clips from Showtime TV shows, as well as other promotional material.
